The Gaffer is the head of the electrical department and the DOP's closest collaborator in translating a lighting design from intention to execution. On an independent film, the gaffer often carries a broader set of responsibilities than on a studio production: advising on equipment choices, managing the electrical budget, crewing up efficiently, and adapting quickly when the plan changes on the day. We look for gaffers who are technically excellent, creatively intelligent, and highly efficient — who can deliver cinematic lighting without cinema-scale resource.

Do you work with gaffers stepping up from best boy credits?
Yes, when supported by relevant experience and a recommendation from a DOP they have worked with.
