The camera operator executes the visual intentions of the DOP, bringing the frame to life shot by shot. On independent productions where the DOP also operates, the camera operator role typically arises on productions large enough to separate the two functions — giving the DOP freedom to focus on lighting and overall visual design. We look for operators with acute spatial awareness, a genuine feel for movement and composition, and the ability to respond intuitively to performance rather than working mechanically from pre-set marks.

Experience with handheld, dolly, Steadicam, and gimbal operation

Occasionally on very small shoots, but typically we separate operator and 1st AC functions.
What mount or stabilisation systems do you most commonly use?
That depends on the DOP and the visual language of the project. We work across a range of systems.
Is operating experience on drama specifically required?
Drama is strongly preferred. Commercial and music video operating experience is considered alongside drama credits.
