They manage slates, load and unload digital cards or film magazines, maintain camera logs, keep the data pipeline clean, and support the 1st AC in keeping the camera ready to shoot. On indie productions where speed and efficiency are paramount, a methodical and focused 2nd AC prevents the kind of data disasters that can derail post-production. Attention to detail and a calm disposition are non-negotiable.

Do 2nd ACs manage data offloading on Indie Matter productions?
On productions without a dedicated DIT, the 2nd AC may manage initial card offloading with DIT protocols in place.
Is the 2nd AC present for prep days?
Yes — the camera department preps together before the shoot and the 2nd AC is expected for all camera prep days.
