The Set Decorator is responsible for sourcing, selecting, and placing every piece of furniture and dressing within the spaces the camera photographs. Working under the Production Designer, the set decorator makes the difference between a room that looks right and one that feels inhabited — one that tells you something specific about the character who lives there or the world the film inhabits. On independent productions, set decorators work inventively within tight sourcing budgets, often finding exceptional pieces through markets, prop houses, and personal contacts.
