The Props Master manages every physical object that a character handles or directly interacts with on screen. From the script breakdown through to the final day of shooting, the props master tracks, sources, maintains, and returns a prop list that can number in the hundreds across a feature film. On an independent production, the props master is also a creative collaborator — anticipating how a character would use a prop, sourcing with an eye for authenticity, and advising the director when a better solution exists than what is written on the page.

Where weapons appear, we work with a licensed armourer. The props master coordinates with the armourer on scheduling and storage.
Does the props master also operate as standby props on smaller shoots?
On very small productions, yes. We aim to have a dedicated standby props wherever the schedule demands it.
How are prop budgets managed at Indie Matter?
The props master works within an agreed props budget, reporting weekly to the production manager on spend.
