The Role

The Sound Designer shapes the sonic world of a film — building an immersive aural landscape from dialogue, effects, ambience, and music that makes the story feel alive and located in time and place. On an independent film, the sound designer often carries a broader remit than on a larger production, overseeing the entire post-sound process from spotting to final mix. We look for sound designers who are as interested in negative space as they are in density: who understand that silence and subtlety can be as powerful as any effects layer.

FAQ

Does the sound designer at Indie Matter also mix the final dub?

On smaller productions, yes. On features, we typically engage a dedicated re-recording mixer for the final dub.

At what stage of post-production do you bring on the sound designer?

Ideally at picture lock, though earlier involvement allows the sound designer to build the world more fully.

Do sound designers need their own studio setup?

A personal working setup is expected. Final mix facilities are booked separately through the production.
