The Production Sound Mixer — or location sound recordist — captures the performance on set with clarity, depth, and presence. On an independent film, the mixer is expected to deliver recordings that require minimal repair in post, working creatively with the environment rather than fighting it. They manage the boom operator, select microphone strategies for each setup, and advise the director when acoustic conditions are likely to create problems. We look for mixers who are technically authoritative, diplomatically direct with directors when necessary, and who understand that what they capture on set shapes the entire post-sound process.
