The Role

The line producer owns the budget and schedule from pre-production through to wrap. On an independent film, the LP is one of the most critical hires — the person who takes a producer's creative ambitions and translates them into a production plan that is actually achievable with the money available. We look for line producers who are genuinely creative problem-solvers: able to find solutions rather than just report problems, and who understand that a great independent film is made in the preparation, not saved in the edit.

Ideally during late pre-production, to allow adequate prep time. On larger projects, we engage the LP earlier to help shape the physical production plan.

Do line producers at Indie Matter work on features, shorts, or both?

Both. The scale and fee differ, but the rigour we expect is consistent across all formats.

Do you use Movie Magic or alternative budgeting software?

We are flexible on tools, but experience with industry-standard budgeting software is expected.
