The director is the creative authority of a film — responsible for translating a screenplay into a coherent cinematic vision. At Indie Matter, directors work in close partnership with the producing team from development through post. We look for directors who are as strong in the room as they are on set: able to articulate their vision clearly, collaborate without ego, and make decisive creative calls under the pressure of a lean independent production. Independent directorial work is not about controlling everything — it is about understanding which battles to fight and how to make material sing within the resources available. We are interested in directors with an original perspective, not those who replicate what already exists.
